Cottage Rentals

About the Cottages

The Head Brewers House has been the home of generations of Batemans Brewery brewers, coopers, boilermen and draymen who liked to live locally to the Brewery, so they could get in early for work. The Brewery Windmill is in the garden of the Station Road Cottages and is adjacent to the River Steeping.

The spacious cottages have been recently refurbished to a high cottage standard and are mainly in the small market town of Wainfleet, but also in the Burgh Le Marsh which is close by. There is so much to do in the immediate area or on the door step.

The Area

It is beautiful, scenic and tranquil. On a clear day you can see for miles, all the way to Hunstanton.

Yes it’s flat, but as they say at Batemans Brewery “the countryside might be flat but the beer isn’t.”

There is a mainline railway station, but the town is away from the main A52 refreshed by the fresh sea breezes from the marsh. Wainfleet is a great place to be based to explore all the attractions in the area.

Attractions

Pubs, food, fishing, dog walks, family entertainment, countryside, beaches, marshland walks, nature reserves, tiger sanctuary at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, seaside entertainment including fun fair, pier & amusements, cathedral & castles, the Lincolnshire Wolds, fantastic beaches, golf, and Batemans Brewery tours.

It’s got the lot and there’s something for all the family. We can provide you with bikes if you wish to go exploring!

Weddings, Parties & Events

These cottages are ideal accommodation for family, friends and others guests at tending weddings, parties or events nearby.

The brewery is a fantastic venue for that special day; a great combination….in a brewery and in a windmill. And it’s alongside the river bank!

We can even marry you at the Brewery and lay on a really special reception, to suit every pocket.

Brewery

The Wainfleet Cottages are right next door to the Brewery Windmill. The Brewery is 150 years old and is still run by the Bateman family.

The brew house is amazing and there are a number of tours each week, with ample sampling!

We pride ourselves on giving one of the best brewery tours and tutored tastings in the country.

About your Host

Batemans Brewery has been passed down through four generations of our family, and along with it a passion that’s never abated.

Our hard-fought independence is a wonderful thing, allowing us to continue to brew great beer and run successful pubs.

That success has never been at the expense of other people. As our grandfather, Harry Bateman, once told his fellow brewers: “In your business, don’t ever lose the human touch with your employees, customers and tenants.” These are the wise, caring words we live by.

About the Neighbourhood in Wainfleet

Wainfleet is a small market town in Lincolnshire. It has great transport links. Either by car just off the A52 5 miles from Skegness or by train on the Skegness Mainline or by bus with the main service picking up either just over the river or in the market place, there also a daily National Express Service from London.

There’s so much to do locally. The attractions of the tourist resort, Skegness, are only 5 miles away. Then there’s the Lincolnshire Wolds, Lincolnshire Cathedral, long stretches of beach, dog walks, swimming pools, golf courses, fair grounds, country pubs, night clubs, museums, or maybe you fancy a Brewery tour!

History of Wainfleet

The home of Batemans Brewery, which overlooks the River Steeping. Its origins go back to Roman times and it was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

It was once famous for being one of the largest ports on the east coast and was the birthplace of William of Waynflete, the founder of Magdalen College Oxford. It was also where John Wesley preached, from the Buttercross.

More recent buildings of interest are those in Barkham Street, which look very much like a street of London houses and it was always rumoured that someone mixed up the plans!

Wainfleet Today

5 miles down the coast from Skegness, it borders the beautiful Wainfleet marshes.

There are local shops, pubs and takeaways, including the famous Sutton Fish & Chip Shop. There’s even a petrol filling station which is one of the last ones in the country to have a filling arm which branches out on to the road!

The Steeping River meanders through Wainfleet and there is a traditional railway station. The old windmill at Batemans Brewery, is one of the most famous features of the small town.

Come as strangers, leave as friends
