The village is the birthplace of John Smith, the famous explorer of the United States. In fact many Americans visit the village throughout the year to pay homage.

The Willoughby Arms is well known for its food and wide cask beer range. Furthermore it has an attractive beer garden to the rear and a well designed smoking shelter.
