ELR50 – East Lincolnshire Railways 50
ELR50 – East Lincolnshire Railways 50 – is a project by a group of railway enthusiasts to mark the 50th anniversary of a devastating blow to the railway system of East and Central Lincolnshire. In October 1970, despite hard-fought local campaigns, significant parts of two main lines and several branch lines were closed to help meet Dr Richard Beeching’s proposals for ‘The Reshaping of British Railways’. His intention was to reduce the size of the national network, and to make the remainder a more efficient modern system, but the effect in much of Lincolnshire was to remove rail transport of passengers and goods completely.

Batemans Brewery are delighted to host a railway exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the significant event. The exhibition will open on 1st August 2020 and will run through until the 4th October 2020 (the actual 50th Anniversary of the last day the trains ran in 1970).
We will be undertaking refurbishment works at the brewery in early 2020 to create an exhibition space for the ELR50.
We are working closely with the ELR50 committee on their exciting plans, the exhibition is really starting to take shape and we are sure that anyone visiting will leave much better informed of how the railway network shaped Lincolnshire in the past.
