Batemans Brewery is one of the country’s oldest family breweries. It is based on an old windmill,
dating back two centuries and overlooks the River Steeping. Definitely THE most picturesque of breweries.
A trip to Batemans gives you the unique opportunity to view this old building.
There are tours around the Victorian brewhouse, where much of the equipment is made of brass and copper.
The tour is fun and humorous and there is also a magnificent new brewhouse and its inscribed bricks. Opened in 2002, it is nicknamed
‘The Theatre of Beers’, an idea allegedly borrowed by a certain Manchester football club, which calls its stadium ‘The Theatre of Dreams’!
The ‘virtual reality’ walk round Brewery Experience
is amazing. No it is not a science lesson, it is humorous, entertaining and fun. You are even welcomed by an old mummified Egyptian brewer!
Also on show is the world’s largest bottled beer collection.
Delve back in history. Original documents written by the Brewery founder, dating back to 1899 are on show for you to browse through,
giving an insight into a bygone age of agriculture, brewing, business, transport and pubs. There is even an old letter to a customer threatening to steal his cows if he did not pay up!
There are also interesting displays and details of how the family fought to keep independence for the Brewery.
There are attractions for all the family in the indoor games area where old traditional pub games
can be found, not seen for years and which never fail to inspire young and old alike ~
Shove Shive, Bagatelle, Ring the Bull’s Nose, Target Bowls, Cheese Skittles, Shive in the Barrel,
Croquet, Pétanque, Giant Snakes and Ladders, Chess, Connect 4, Twister and Tumble Tower
can all be experienced before you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the beer garden.
The circular windmill bar stocks genuine Czechoslovakian lagers and Belgian Beers alongside the championship winning Bateman’s beers.
Wines of the month are always available. Children are well looked after with the Bateman’s value range of soft drinks.
Due to the circular shape of the mill you can stand in various areas and the sound magnifies itself, Roman Auditorium style....EERIE !
If it’s good Lincolnshire cooking you want, you won’t be disappointed.
The extensive menu includes pies and sausages, all at great value prices, and what better surroundings to enjoy them in than the old windmill.
Sunday Lunch is a Speciality!
We also enjoy catering for vegetarians and children.
The Brewery shop is a delight in its own right, with everything for the souvenir hunter,
the serious beer collector or the holiday present buyer. Some of the items of merchandise are Limited Edition,
but the main emphasis is on offering something interesting for all the family.
