Our Training

At Batemans we are 100% committed to providing excellent training for our staff, tenants and customers. With this in mind we have put together an extensive range of training programmes, which will not only assist individuals with their development, but is designed to help maximise the profits of the business that they work in and the job satisfaction of all staff members.

The courses also aim to assist employers and employees to work within the confines of legislation and regulations giving them confidence to focus on driving their businesses forward.

The Windmill Training Centre is, understandably, inside an old windmill which backs onto a disused bakery. The architecture and old beams create a warm and interesting environment to keep you stimulated throughout the whole of your course.

The Training Centre has been approved by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) as an accredited training facility. The Windmill is the perfect place for training courses. Away from the hustle and bustle it is an idyllic setting by the banks of the River Steeping. Our training courses are heavily subsidised and are run, predominately in-house, by experienced, passionate front line operators.

We believe training delegates benefit from having courses delivered by people who care about their businesses rather than a hired lecturer who will likely have no connection to the business in the future. We run a wide range of courses, specifically tailored to the needs of our licensed retailing partners.

At the heart of our training programmes is our residential two day Running A Pub Successfully Course. It is ideal for those wanting to run their own pub business as well as a good refresher for experienced operators. The course covers all aspects of the licensed trade including licensing, finance, employment law, catering, customer service, beer quality and dispense, wine, energy, licensing and stock taking. The training is free to Bateman tenants.

As an added incentive our training is held at our Visitors Centre which has many interesting exhibits and after each course there is the opportunity of a guided tour of the Brewery.
