Our Code of Practice
'Eyes Wide Open'
We believe it is imperative that our tenants understand exactly what they can expect from us and vice versa.
Our Code of Practice 'Eyes Wide Open' has been independently accredited by the BII. They said that it was one of the fairest codes they had come across.
The document explains the importance of the family structure, the types of agreements we have available and the support we offer. It also clarifies the responsibility of the tenant and the Brewery and the working practices expected of both, including the openness with which we operate.

Industry Framework
In addition to our own Code of Practice, we fully comply and support the Industry Framework that is recognised by the BBPA, FLVA and the BII. The Enhanced Framework Code (Version 5) below supersedes the existing Framework Code 2010, is legally binding on George Bateman & Son Ltd and applies from 1st January 2012, with the exception of paragraphs which require changes to our Code of Practice, which will apply from 31st March 2012.
Please see below for the industry statement and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
"The BBPA, BII and FLVA have recently agreed an enhanced Industry Framework Code which has been sent to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. The new Code introduces a formalised conciliation and advisory service, a tri-annual review process and a range of technical improvements. This new and Enhanced Framework Code will supersede the existing Framework Code. As a result we are updating our own Code of Practice which will re-issued by the end of March 2012.
Although Batemans has always accepted that our Code is legally binding ,this is now to be formalised as is the provision of low cost mediation and conciliation services.
Key new commitments made by the BBPA and its pub company members, including Batemans, are as follows:
· A strengthened industry framework code, following a review, undertaken with the BII and FLVA and involving other stakeholders.
· A legally binding status for the industry framework code, which will be included in future primary lease and tenancy agreements by ‘reference’, and will be offered as a supplementary contract for incorporation into existing agreements.
· A more robust accreditation process for company codes of practice, which would require reaccreditation by the BII every three years.
· A new arbitration service, the Pub Independent Conciliation and Arbitration Service (PICAS) for disputes other than rent, with the ability to provide compensation, to which all tenants and lessees could appeal. Its establishment would be funded by BBPA members, and it would complement the existing low-cost PIRRS arbitration scheme which relates only to rents.
· An enhanced provision of independent expert business advice and setting the highest standards of training.
These additional measures renew the sectors commitment to meaningful reform and are the result of constructive dialogue between the BPPA, the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills, industry partners and campaign groups”.
